Scientific name from: L.: falco=falcom (from falcis=sickle, ref hooked talons) and after Giudicessa Eleonora d'Arborea (1350-1404), a Sardinian who made laws protecting birds of prey
World Distribution: BREEDS Mediterranean shores, WINTERS south to Tanzania & Madagascar
Habitat: Scrub, cliffs
Diet: Small birds and large insects taken in flight, mostly early morning/late evening
TitBit: The breeding season of the Eleonora's Falcon is timed to occur with peak bird migration over the Mediterranean, so it lays eggs later than most other raptors (from mid-July)
